Our Story
The founding of Barrack Broking is inspired by the greatest event in Australian insurance history.
In 1849 a group of like-minded individuals, with a desire to help others, established the Australian Mutual Provident Society to offer insurance to the marketplace. As a mutual, its insurance products gave certainty to the individuals building Australia when no other safety net existed.
Beginning in a small, leased premises above a fruit shop in the Sydney CBD, opposite Barrack Gate, the mutual innovated and grew to become the largest insurer in the British Empire.
Barrack Broking Directors, Charlie Gow-Gates and Graeme Hay, are inspired by the same vision – to offer certainty to Australian business owners and strengthen Australia’s business sector.
Insurance is an essential foundation stone for every Australian business. It is there to eliminate risk and pave the way for businesses to pursue their business objectives.
Like those pioneers of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, our Directors are bound together by a passion to deliver a new level of insurance service to our clients. Barrack Broking is founded on the desire to:

- Give clients the confidence to pursue their business objectives.
- Demonstrate the value we add to a client's business.
- Deliver a level of transparency unmatched by our peers.
- Maintain quality service and a long-term partnership with clients with one of the Directors of the business overseeing each client matter.
